Robotic Engineer – Asia product launch

Robotic Engineer – Asia product launch

Would you like to get into the fast-growing world of surgical robots? We are looking for bright, curious and talented graduate engineers who can help us to extend the market reach of our advanced surgical robotic systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to help adapt the capabilities of our systems to meet the demands of new markets (e.g. China). To do this you will need to be able to rapidly assimilate information from a variety of sources to thoroughly understand the engineering requirements for the system, and to de-vise test strategies and run tests that support market entry into new Asian markets. You will do this while working collaboratively with our overseas partners and teams, including overseas on-the-ground support (e.g. China) to help with product introduction. You will join us at an exciting time in our development as we scale-up to become a global medical devices company and you will be exposed to a wide range of technical and operational challenges, helping you to make informed decisions about your future career at CMR.

Why join us?

CMR is one of the UK’s most exciting companies to be joining right now.  The scale of our ambition to build a world-class medical devices company in Cambridge is matched only by the breathtaking innovation that underpins our next generation of surgical robot. We’re an award-winning company that plans to significantly disrupt the way surgery is performed for the benefit of millions of patients all around the world.

Our values are ambitious, humble, people focused and fair and responsible. If you share these values, our passion for improving lives, and have the skills to make a real difference to the way minimal access surgery is developed and delivered, then it’s a great time to join us.

The Role

Would you like to get into the fast-growing world of surgical robots? We are looking for bright, curious and talented graduate engineers who can help us to extend the market reach of our advanced surgical robotic systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to help adapt the capabilities of our systems to meet the demands of new markets (e.g. China). To do this you will need to be able to rapidly assimilate information from a variety of sources to thoroughly understand the engineering requirements for the system, and to devise test strategies and run tests that support market entry into new Asian markets.

Responsibilities

Working within a multi-disciplinary team we are looking for someone who can:

  • Understand the system behaviour and ensure that it is thoroughly tested and documented to a level appropriate for a global medical device
  • Create bespoke product test environments (hardware, software or a combination) and assist in the development of system test protocols
  • Undertake system verification testing and monitor/report on test progress
  • Support product entry into new markets by working in collaboration with our overseas partners and teams, including overseas on-site support
  • Assist with training of overseas partners and colleagues to ensure that they have technical familiarity with the system
  • Assist with trouble shooting and repair of complex electro-mechanical robotic systems
  • Work with our engineering, manufacturing and service/support teams to ensure that product test/deployment plans and documents are optimised for the intended deployment environment

We are a high growth company and as such roles change and evolve. We would generally expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the overall engineering remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.

About you

You will have a good degree in engineering, physics or a related discipline. Naturally you will be curious and inquisitive and you will also need to have the communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, coupled with a genuine desire to grow your skills and learn and apply good engineering practice within a commercially-focused product development environment.

We would like you to have:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise easily with colleagues from a variety of engineering, operations, clinical and scientific backgrounds
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to generate accurate yet concise technical documentation
  • An analytical approach with the ability to rapidly understand and assimilate functions and relationships within a complex engineering system
  • A can-do attitude with flexibility to work on a variety of tasks in support of the team’s objectives, both hands-on laboratory work as well as desk-based documentation or development work
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, and able to see a job through to the end
  • Willingness to travel internationally (e.g. China) for periods of up to a few weeks to support product entering a new territory (although the position is UK based)

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience of working within an engineering development or research environment
  • An appreciation of both hardware and software
  • Experience of Python (or other scripting languages)
  • Experience of producing technical or engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese

The package

We offer a competitive salary and a great benefits package (including non-contributory pension scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, life assurance, and our legendary monthly BBQs). On top of that, you’ll be joining a company with a fabulous culture of ambition, creativity and teamwork, and where fun is just as valued as our commitment to make surgery better for millions of people.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you!
