Senior Mathematical Software Engineer

In this senior role, you’ll plan, coordinate, and develop new robotic technology for use in keyhole surgery. You’ll work as a lead member of a multi-disciplinary team to improve lives of patients through robotic mini-mal access ("keyhole") surgery.

Responsibilities

Working within an exceptional team, you will be expected to:

  • Apply a strong mathematical background to real-world problems
  • Demonstrate a passion for using theoretical understanding to develop applied software
  • Develop and implement creative solutions based on different technologies and key requirements
  • Demonstrate a rigorous attention to detail
  • Apply best practice for software development and mentor less experienced employees in this area
  • Write complex technical design documentation and test protocols
  • Plan and deliver project tasks within agreed timescales and budget
  • Architect and code high quality software which is suitable for use in an invasive medical device and is compliant with the relevant medical device standards

You may expect to work on problems as varied as robot kinematics, sensor calibration, control, signal processing, telemetry data analysis and manufacturing test.

About you

You will have a strong mathematical background and a passion for developing software solutions to applied mathematics problems. As well as a degree with a 2.1 or above in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physics, you will have a track record in a technical leadership role and be able and determined to deliver projects within agreed timescales.

You’ll be enthusiastic, curious, energetic and proactive – and interested in what CMR is seeking to achieve.

You will have industry or academic experience in several of the following areas:

  • Numerical Linear Algebra
  • Robot kinematics / solid body mechanics
  • Algorithm optimisation
  • Motor control
  • Feedback control systems
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Modelling
  • Fluency in either MATLAB or Numeric Python for algorithm prototyping and/or data analysis

You will have evidence of software skills:

  • A comprehensive understanding of software engineering fundamentals and best practice
  • Familiarity with the C programming language
  • Python programming skills

  • Robotics
  • Real time embedded systems
