Senior Systems Engineer – Versius Product

Senior Systems Engineer – Versius Product

We’re looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to help us evolve the capabilities of our advanced robotic systems. You will work with stakeholders to understand their needs and make sure that these are translated into on-going improvements that deliver the best possible impact for our customers. To do this you’ll need to develop a full-system understanding of our highly complex electromechanical robotic systems, and you’ll use formal product design and risk management tools where needed, but above all you will be a stellar communicator who is able to act as the interface between users, engineers, manufacturing and field support.

Why join us?

CMR is one of the UK’s most exciting companies to be joining right now. The scale of our ambition to build a world-class medical devices company in Cambridge is matched only by the breathtaking innovation that underpins our next generation of surgical robot. We’re an award-winning company that plans to significantly disrupt the way surgery is performed for the benefit of millions of patients all around the world.

Our values are ambitious, humble, people focused and fair and responsible. If you share these values, our passion for improving lives, and have the skills to make a real difference to the way minimal access surgery is developed and delivered, then it’s a great time to join us.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with multiple stakeholders to understand the behaviour and performance required from our robotic systems and translating these into clearly stated written requirements.
  • Applying your understanding of the whole system to develop risk management arguments and documenting these using appropriate tools (e.g. FMEA, Hazard Analysis etc).
  • Working with our manufacturing and service teams to understand the root cause of defects, and then helping ensure that the right design changes are carried out and verified.
  • Communicating across teams from multiple disciplines to ensure a shared understanding of design changes.

We’re a high growth company and as such roles change and evolve. We expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the team’s remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.

About you

We’d expect you to have a good (first or upper second) degree in engineering, physics or a related discipline and a proven track record of applying your systems engineering skills in a product development environment. We would also like you to have:

  • A passion for helping teams follow high quality product development processes and a determination to continuously improve our design documentation.
  • An ability to develop a good physical intuition for the mechanical dynamics of our system.
  • Fantastic written and verbal communication skills. It is critical that you have the ability to extract complex technical information from discussions with a variety of teams and disciplines, and then present it in a form suitable for technical and non-technical team members alike.
  • Experience in developing appropriate manual and automated test specifications for electromechanical systems.
  • An ability to look at problems from a system perspective and drill down to the analysis of software, electronics and / or mechanical issues.
  • Experience in the design and risk management of safety critical systems, either within the medical sector or another industry such as automotive, aerospace, or industrial control.
  • Discipline specific technical expertise in at least one from: embedded software, electronics or mechanical design, with a track record of taking a leading role in at least one of those areas on product development projects.
  • A genuine desire to help, develop and support team members so that we can all achieve our best.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience of medical product development processes and standards.
  • Relevant experience in robotics or in the design of other complex electromechanical systems.

The package

We offer a competitive salary and a great benefits package (including non-contributory pension scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, life assurance, and our infamous monthly BBQs). On top of that, you’ll be joining a company with a fabulous culture of ambition, creativity and teamwork, and where fun is just as valued as our commitment to make surgery better for millions of people.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you!
