Robotics and minimal access surgery have a history together going back forty years. This development has been driven by desire to combining the precision and reach of robotics with the skill and knowledge of human surgeon. Luke Hares’ talk will offer a short trip through this history and some thoughts on future developments in this area.
Luke, Technology Director of Cambridge Medical Robotics, is a physicist with practical multidisciplinary engineering skills and, for the past 20 years, has been involved in the conception and development of many products and medical devices. Luke was responsible for the Versius concept, created in response to the need for a better way to perform laparoscopic surgery.
