Financial Controller - UK and Europe

Reporting directly to the group financial controller, who reports to the CFO, you will oversee the financial results for our UK and European entities. Responsibilities

  • Strategic financial leadership: Take ownership of the financial results for CMR Surgical’s UK and European businesses, ensuring accurate and timely reporting while driving initiatives for financial efficiency and effectiveness.
  • P&L analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of profit & loss (P&L) statements to provide insights into financial performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Balance sheet management: Oversee the management and accuracy of balance sheets, ensuring proper reconciliation and alignment with group reporting schedules.
  • Cash flow management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and support operational needs and strategic initiatives. Manage relationship between CMR and our banking partners and act as super-user on our banking platforms, ensuring adequate segregation of duties are constantly maintained
  • Business partnership: Develop and maintain strong relationships with global stakeholders, including those at HQ. Collaborate closely with the group financial controller and other key stakeholders, including our outsourced statutory accounts across Europe to ensure ongoing compliance with statutory accounts preparation and to align financial strategies and objectives across regions.
  • Change management: Lead and implement financial process improvements and system upgrades. Champion change initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Team leadership: Manage, motivate, and develop a high-performing team, including the UK-based accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, and expenses teams. Serve as a mentor and key point of escalation, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • AP, AR, and payroll management: Oversee the management of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and payroll functions to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Tax planning and compliance: Oversee direct and indirect tax planning and compliance, ensuring adherence to statutory requirements and regulations. Collaborate with the group tax manager to manage tax-related queries and maintain compliance across all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Audit assistance: Support year-end audits to ensure a smooth and accurate auditing process.
  • Additional duties: Take on additional accounting tasks and responsibilities as needed to help the team achieve its objectives and drive overall success.

About you

To excel in this role you will need:

  • Professional qualification: ACCA, CPA, or equivalent – mandatory
  • Relevant experience: Significant experience in a global company, with a mandatory background in the medical or capital equipment sector.
  • Analytical and strategic insight: strong ability to analyse P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow, drawing actionable insights to drive strategic decisions.
  • Technical proficiency: Strong grasp of IFRS, especially IFRS15 and IFRS16, to support local Finance and Commercial teams with the accounting implications of material contracts advanced Excel skills; experience with NetSuite is advantageous.
  • Communication and influence: excellent communication skills with a proven ability to build strong relationships with global stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Leadership and change management: demonstrated capability to lead and inspire a team, drive change, and implement process improvements.
  • Work ethic and integrity: commitment to hard work, high integrity, and ethical standards.

Work arrangement

This role is based on-site at our Cambridge premises, with an option for hybrid working (4 days a week in the office).
