Published at the weekend, the 21st annual Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 10 league table identified some of the UK’s most disruptive private companies. The 10 companies are recognised for having a business model, product or service that is creating a new market, or transforming existing markets and rapidly taking market share from competitors.

The list includes companies from a variety of sectors all driven by their innovative thinking, investment in technology and finding new solutions to old problems.

CMR has developed Versius, a surgical robot designed to meet the complex requirements of laparoscopic surgery and has filed more than 100 patents throughout its development. Versius, inspired by the human arm, has remarkable dexterity, flexibility and reach, to enable a new paradigm in surgical experience and to help CMR achieve its aim of making minimal access surgery available to all.

The award is further testament to a company with a significant growth rate. CMR has more than doubled in size in the last year. It now employs more than 140 people in Cambridge, and expects to grow significantly in 2018.

Martin Frost, CMR’s Chief Executive Officer said, “As a company located in Cambridge, Europe’s innovation capital, we are only too aware of the scale of innovation happening in the UK. To be named as a top 10 UK disruptor is truly an honour. This award is testament to the dedication of our hard-working high-skilled team determined to revolutionise surgery with the launch of our next-generation robot.”

Peter Kelly, Managing Director, Virgin Media Business, said: “We are delighted to name CMR as a one of the UK’s most disruptive businesses. They have seen an opportunity and made it their purpose to disrupt long established markets and practices.

“For us at Virgin Media Business it is our purpose to help all businesses fulfil their digital potential and we recognise how much digital advancement has been a key focus for these new and disruptive companies.”

CMR is invited to attend the 21st annual Fast Track 100 conference and awards dinner, which will be held on Wednesday 23 May 2018 in London. The event is co-hosted by Sir Richard Branson.
