Versius launches in Sweden as NU-hospital group becomes the first to start cases using Versius

~  NU-hospital group Sweden, a part of Västra Götalandregionen has started cases using Versius in a first for Sweden, and the Nordics

CMR Surgical (CMR or ‘the Company’), the global surgical robotics business, today announces that Norra Älvsborgs Sjukhus (NÄL), a public hospital and part of NU-hospital group has become the first hospital in Sweden, and the Nordics to conduct robotic-assisted surgery cases with Versius.

At Norra Älvsborgs hospital, Versius is being used as part of a multispecialty robotic surgery programme including general surgery and gynaecology surgery enabling more patients to benefit from robotic-assisted minimal access surgery. Norra Älvsborgs hospital is part of one of the largest hospital regions, Västra Götalandsregionen, in Sweden and the Nordic region, and the hospital offers a range of multispecialty and acute care services.

Versius is the only small and modular surgical robotic system on the market which makes it easy to adopt for surgeons and hospitals. By being small and modular, it can fit into virtually any operating room without the need to alter existing infrastructure. The modularity of Versius gives surgeons ease and flexibility to put the ports where surgeons want, and more importantly, are used to putting them, therefore making the system ideal to perform a versatile range of cases and integrate into existing workflows. At Norra Älvsborgs hospital, Versius is initially being used to perform a range of general surgery procedures then expanding to gynaecology, adding to the established robotics offering at Norra Älvsborgs hospital.

Susanne Lehnberg, Commercial Manager, Nordics, CMR Surgical commented: “We are delighted that Norra Älvsborgs hospital, part of NU-sjukvården Västra Götalandregionen, has become the first hospital to offer Versius in Sweden. This partnership with Norra Älvsborgs hospital, who are well-known for their high standards and a hospital that focuses heavily on science and education, is an important step forward for helping patients across the region to get more access to robotic assisted minimal access surgery.”

The news follows the launch of vLimeLite* a new imaging technology to visualise ICG that makes Versius Plus the first CE marked surgical robot on the market to offer an integrated ICG system with multiple viewing modes and colour displays to visualise ICG, enhancing visualisation during surgery. There are now over 160 Versius installations around the world, and over 19,000 surgical cases completed as CMR Surgical continues to bring the next-generation surgical robotic system to surgeons around the world.

The Versius Surgical Robotic System

Versius resets expectations of robotic surgery. Versius fits into virtually any operating room set-up and integrates seamlessly into existing workflows, increasing the likelihood of robotic minimal access surgery (MAS). The small, portable and modular design of Versius allows the surgeon to only use the number of arms needed for a given procedure.

Biomimicking the human arm, Versius gives surgeons the choice of optimised port placement alongside the dexterity and accuracy of small fully-wristed instruments. With 3D HD vision, easy-to adopt instrument control and a choice of ergonomic working positions, the open surgeon console has the potential to reduce stress and fatigue and allows for clear communication with the surgical team. By thinking laparoscopically and operating robotically with Versius, patients, surgeons and healthcare professionals can all benefit from the value that robotic MAS brings.

But it’s more than just a robot. Versius captures meaningful data with its wider digital ecosystem to support a surgeon’s continuous learning. Through the Versius Connect app, Versius Trainer and CMR clinical registry, Versius unleashes a wealth of insights to ultimately improve surgical care.
