CMR Surgical – the global surgical robotics company – today announced that the Versius® Surgical Robotic System is now being listed by the French central purchasing office, Union des Hôpitaux pour les Achats (UniHA), the leading public purchaser in the field of healthcare in France.

UniHA is a cooperative of French public hospital buyers and is one of the main European purchasers in the health sector. UniHA has 1,140 member hospitals and 120 hospital groups (GHT). Central purchasing agencies are key players in the highly centralised French healthcare system, dominated by three leading purchasing agencies, including UniHA and Resah.

The leading factors behind UniHA’s decision to choose Versius included its small, modular, and independent robotic arms, and the system architecture that allows surgical teams to work collaboratively with Versius at the bedside, giving direct access to the patient throughout the entire procedure. The system also allows surgeons to perform a range of fully robotic as well as hybrid procedures with the freedom of port placement afforded by its modular design. Further, Versius has an open console that facilitates clear verbal and non-verbal communication between the surgeon and surgical team.

Versius can also be quickly moved between departments and easily integrated into existing workflows, so that hospitals can maximise its utilisation and provide access to minimal access surgery with the benefits of robotic technology to more patients.

Dr Mark Slack, Chief Medical Officer of CMR Surgical said “We are delighted to announce the listing of Versius in the UniHA catalogue, and to see that they are embracing the latest technology in robotic assisted surgery and recognise the value that it brings. This is a major opportunity to help bring the advantages of minimal access surgery to more patients, and means that hundreds more hospitals in France will now have the opportunity to benefit from Versius.”

This announcement follows a competitive tender win for Versius by Resah in 2020 – one of the largest health sector public purchasing centres in France, which collaborates with more than 700 public and private non-profit hospital, medico-social and social centres.

The Versius® Surgical Robotic System

Versius® resets expectations of robotic surgery. Versius fits into virtually any operating room set-up and integrates seamlessly into existing workflows, increasing the likelihood of robotic minimal access surgery (MAS). The small, portable and modular design of Versius allows the surgeon to only use the number of arms needed for a given procedure.

Biomimicking the human arm, Versius gives surgeons the choice of optimised port placement alongside the dexterity and accuracy of small fully-wristed instruments. With 3D HD vision, easy-to adopt instrument control and a choice of ergonomic working positions, the open surgeon console has the potential to reduce stress and fatigue and allows for clear communication with the surgical team. By thinking laparoscopically and operating robotically with Versius, patients, surgeons and healthcare professionals can all benefit from the value that robotic MAS brings.

But it’s more than just a robot. Versius captures meaningful data with its wider digital ecosystem to support a surgeon’s continuous learning. Through the Versius Connect app, Versius Trainer and CMR clinical registry, Versius unleashes a wealth of insights to ultimately improve surgical care.
