Instrument and Consumables Intern

We’re looking for an exceptional Gap Year/Student Placement - Instrument and Consumables Development Engineer, on a fixed term contract, to join our Instruments and Consumable team based in Cambridge (Evolution Business Park, Milton).

The Instrument and Consumables team is within the Technology function and designs and develops the surgical instruments and the consumables that, together with the robot, comprise the Versius surgical robotic system. A role in Instrument and Consumables is a great start for anyone planning a career in truly multi-disciplinary product development.  You will learn what it takes to develop complex medical devices as we work together on our mission to transform the future of surgery.

This role is based on-site at our Cambridge premises.

Responsibilities

You will be included in day-to-day tasks and take on responsibility and support with:

  • Developing new products and product enhancements
  • Developing test protocols and writing technical reports
  • Running performance and life tests on subsystem components and instruments
  • Undertaking root cause analyses to assist with our programme of continuous improvement
  • Developing departmental tools and processes

We’re a high growth company and roles can change and evolve. You’ll be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Instruments and Consumables Development remit that supports the team with delivering its objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) 
  • Relevant academic background
  • A “can-do” attitude is essential: good at “getting things done”
  • Ability and willingness to develop new skills
  • a passion for pursuing hobbies or interests outside of school/college

It would also be helpful if you are:

  • In your final year of A Levels (or equivalent) looking for a gap year of at least 9 months
  • Applying for your 1-year Industrial Placement as part of your university course in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or similar discipline
  • A recent graduate seeking a fixed term contract with a world-class medical devices company!
